compressor. This type of device also operates on the same principle as traditional heating or cooling systems. It also uses electricity to
move heat between outdoor and indoor air by compressing. It is sometimes called the mini split heat pump.

WHAT IS A HEAT PUMPS?

A heat pump is a home appliance (similar to a fridge
freezer) that heats and cools the atmosphere in the home.
It heats, cools, dehumidifies and continuously filters the air
of dust and other impurities. It also circulates the air
without heating or cooling to eliminate stuffiness. A typical
heat pump is two units - an indoor unit, and an outdoor
unit. For this reason, they are often called "split systems".
Heat pump works by exploiting the physical properties of
an evaporating and condensing fluid known as a
refrigerant. Refrigerant is passed through a circuit of
evaporation and condensation, drawing heat from one
area and transferring it to another. Refrigerators and air
conditioners are both heat pumps. For a heat pump, the
process is fully reversible, making a heat pump efficient at
moving heat away from or toward the inside of your home,
depending on the season and desired temperature. In
summer, the heat pump removes heat from the air inside
and pumps it outside. In winter, the heat pump extracts
heat from outside air and pumps it inside.
The outdoor unit of the heat pump is a compressor unit.
This unit compresses the refrigerant, a warm
high-pressure gas, and sends it through a coil in the
indoor unit, which looks like a furnace. The heat within the
high-pressure gas is released from the surface area of the
coils and blown into the house with a fan. The cooled gas
is then sent to an expansion valve and sent to the outdoor
unit coils. The cool low-pressure gas draws heat from the
outdoor air with the large surface area of these coils, and
this heated gas is sent into the compressor to begin the
cycle again.
